Lasvoien dragon 90 days old(144 earth days). They're more stocky at this age than they are at 30 days old. They can now fly very short distances but will mostly ride atop their mother. It is at this age that they gain the first use of their element though it will be many years before they have full control over it. They are starting to speak at this age as well and are able to change into their vora form(which will look like the human equivalent of a 2 year old).
The first thing that caught my eye: The floating water. I love the effect of it. I love that the water reflects his eye color and makes his scales blurry. I think that it makes a very, very nice addition. (I like water. )
Also, the detail must have been painstaking. All of those tiny scales overlapping each other. Though I'm afraid this will be another object of my nitpicking. They don't look like scales, they look like octagons pressed up against each other. I know that it would be a ridiculously painstaking process, but to make it look more realistic, there should be a darker shading of where the scales overlap each other.
It would be a pain, but the picture would be worth it.
I also love how the shadow in the water is blurry. (I still like water.)
And since scales are what they are, they should have a more... metalic glint off of them from the light source. Speaking of which, there doesn't seem to be one.
Also, I noticed that you went lineless, which I commend you on doing since I'm too much of a chicken to do so. I just lower the opacity a lot. But the effect that is given isn't completely desired. Especially since some of the edges seem a bit distorted. I would understand if it were the bumps of his scales, but these bumps are much more random and throw off the flow of the piece. And the tail, I would advise making the crook and the rest of the tail from the inner to the outer from the bend on to be darker. It would just help the viewer be able to differenciate that the tail is longer than it's presented.
And the shading seems very generic from where you did them. I understand why you did all of it, but you missed several spots that throw it off since you did so in other places but not there. Such as the horns nad claws. I can see bare ammounts of shading, but not enough to be noticable. And if the claws are white, wouldn't they reflect some the green of the scales. Especially since the horn that's against the scales seems terribly out of place since it's just a triangle of white without any noticable shading.
Then there's the paw on the dragon's upper front, the fifth claw shouldn't be visible from this angle. It makes the paw look very awkward.
Other than all of that, I really do like this picture. You capture the youth of the dragon without having to tone down any of the natural muscle mass and get the naivette and innocence down spot on.
Whats the first thing you notice? It looks kinda cute, and I saw the polka dots first What do you like the most? The polka dots, youre really good with details in your drawings. I really like the..bubbles? its playing with, and the blue eyes that like, pierce my soul OH and the wings, I like the wings. The least? I cant have it as a pet D: What could make it better? Nothing as far as I know. Whats the first thing you thought when you saw this? OHMYGODITSSOCUTE! What made you click this image? To critique it^^
Im a photographer, so I dont usually critique drawings or digital or anything. But I really like this one^^
Thanks! Yep, all my scales are drawn by hand when I first started drawing them like that it was a major pain but once you're used to it, you fall into a sort of rhythm and it takes no time at all!
I love the pose and the concept behind this piece. I especially like the bright, expressive eyes. In future pieces, I think maybe you could use more lights and darks, but otherwise, nice image. + fav, for sure.
