*UPDATE* Thank you to everyone that's offered their critique! I've messed with the shadows a bit and added a slight eyelid reflection on the eye.

I think it's been a good 8 years or so since I've had a fursona. Until I can draw humans I'll flesh out what I'd like to look like if I were one of my own dragons. =D

Well, this is a motive that I see every so often and it is kind of hit or miss. This one hit.

One great thing about this is the colours. Obviously you are good at colours, beyond comprehension for me, so I do what I always do to see if colours could be improved: Load it up in an image editing program, duplicate the image as a second layer and play around with blending modes. Of course colours display differently on different screens, but still...
This is what I found out:
The blue shading isn't a bad idea, but it is way too strong. I prefer it with a less coloured, darker shade.
When I put the duplicated layer to the "Soft Light" blending mode, I was a bit amazed. =) Right now, it's a dragon with yellow-ish scales, but with that slight edit, I had a rich gold with the shading popping out stronger and better.
This way, I could appreciate all the work put into the scales a lot better (and also, I could see that magnificent eye better).

I also noticed that the image works way better when it is smaller. Zooming in to 100% is only beneficial to the eye, but not the scales. I don't know if changing the display size down to 900 px when editing the Deviation would be an option for you.

OK. Now, onto the centre piece of the image: the eye. It's... almost perfect. I can't really say much about it. It's amazing. The reflection is probably the best thing about it, the rest of the lighting is awesome as well. Sure, it might not be rendered out as much as it could be, considering that the rest of the image seems to be more detailed, but it definitely works.

A final note: Did you have to save it as a JPG? At 85%? I feel pretty strongly about this, I know, but I would recommend exporting it as a PNG so that the viewer will have the maximum viewing experience should they decide to zoom all the way in. Unless, of course, you are concerned about people taking advantage of high quality art.

Great work!

I really like the colour combo. However what really captured my attentio was the expression. I can just imagine the dragon smiling a soft fond smile at the friend, for example. I don't know exactly how to explain it but the entire picture feels warm and very friendly.

A wonderfully done and detailed artwork. I personally would love to see a similar piece  with a different lightning: One with one light source starting at the upper right coner, so it will look more like a "makro shot" taken inside a cave. Would be a real enhancing feature as the rest is very detailed and well made :-).
Neddless to say I really like this piece and would apreciate seing more in the future :-)!!

That would look nice! I'll keep that in mind next time I do a focused eye piece!

The scales seem that took a lot of work , but worth it, because they were very good. As for the eye , I think it lacks a bit more volume , with a slightly more rounded light is arranged , I guess. Despite that, it's a very good piece , I congratulate you !

Thank you!

I'm having a little trouble understanding your second sentence. Are you saying the eye part needs more shading to show its shape? Does that include the eyelids or just the eyeball?

No worries! I did fix up the shading a bit among other suggestions by people so hopefully it looks better now!

Details of scales are stunning, like on eye, but I can only say, that there is something wrong with pupil - reflection is okay, but I think eye needs more contrast and shade under the eyelid.
Also, I like how you matched colors - red is always pretty with yellow tones :)

I like the detail you put in the scales, and the detail in the eye itself. The shading looks nice, I really like this. Great job.

Oh my gosh, this is probably my favorite piece by you so far. Your attention to detail is phenomenal, and I especially love the iris and the careful rounding out of the eye. The only thing that stuck me as a little off was the eyelid that is around the eye-- generally, there would be some reflection due to wetness around that area. Additionally, as the lids meet in the left-hand corner of the eye, they start to to lack the three-dimensionality that the rest of the piece features so beautifully. Wonderful work, as usual!

Thank you! I completely forgot about the eyelid reflection. I'll have to mess around with that and see how to implement it. I'll fix the shading on the lefthand side too! =D
